Program Features
The Master of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MED in TESOL) prepares English language teachers to work with students from all backgrounds. Xavier's TESOL graduate program consists of 30 credit hours, including nine hours in professional foundation courses, three hours of electives and 18 hours for the TESOL Endorsement. It includes all required courses for an Ohio endorsement.

Admission
Applications are accepted throughout the year from students with a bachelor's degree and a solid academic background. You may begin the program in the summer, fall or spring term.

Applications are processed immediately upon receiving all of the necessary materials, and you will be notified of your status as soon as possible. The admission committee considers all of the information contained in the admission application, including prior grades, test scores and evidence of potential for success in graduate study.
TEST WAIVER OPTION
Applicants to Graduate Programs in the School of Education Must Have:
- Undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited university AND
- Admission test score
- State licensed teacher
- Pursuing a M.Ed. or M.S.Ed. without licensure (if undergrad GPA is 3.0 or higher)
- Pursuing a principal or administration license
- Pursuing a second license or endorsement
- Pursuing a Montessori teaching credential only

Curriculum
The Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement coursework at Xavier University is an 18 graduate credit hour program. Three semester hours of an approved phonics course from undergraduate studies can be applied toward the endorsement. Transcript reviews are completed for each student to determine course requirements. In addition to courses, 45 hours of documented field hours are required. Field hours are distributed across grade levels and are documented on Xavier University time sheets and signed by the supervising teacher or principal.

Offsite Locations for MEd in TESOL students
Offsite locations offer flexibility for students in the MEd in TESOL graduate program. Students have the option to start core courses at one of five Cincinnati area locations near work and home.

TESOL Endorsement Option
Educators have the option to pursue a MEd in TESOL or a TESOL endorsement within the Xavier School of Education. 18 hours credit hours are required for the TESOL Endorsement and 30 credit hours are required for the Master’s.
